BCEL1016: Running Content Scanning

Follow

Please note: Content Scanning is a feature available to our Pro and Enterprise platform customers. If you have a Standard version of BetterCloud, you will not be able to perform content scanning at this time.

Now that you have an understanding of how BetterCloud's Content Scanning works, and which type of scan you should run based on your needs, let's walk through our two newest forms of Content Scanning: Select Scans and FIle Audits.

Video Overview

By the end of this video, you will be able to...

  • Perform a Select Scan on up to 100 files
  • Run a File Audit, checking for sensitive information in files
  • Review results of your scans
  • Identify violations
  • Define the types of files that are unable to be scanned

Best Practice: Run File Audits to Set Up Go Forward Policies

It is considered a best practice to first run File Audits before setting up your Go Forward policies. If you've already set up your Go Forward policies, that isn't a problem. However, File Audit's will allow you to set a baseline for your files. Once you've remediated any files that return in your File Audit, you'll know that only files that come back as part of your Go Forward policy are a violation of your security/DLP needs.

Best Practice: Group Data Types that Go Together

To reduce the number of File Audits and Select Scans you need to perform, it may make sense for you to group data types that go together. For example, if you're looking for national identification numbers, you could group U.S. Social Security Number, Canadian Social Insurance Number, etc. This will allow you to cast a wide net while being specific about the type of data you're looking for.
