Integrating Google Hangouts with BetterCloud

When integrating a new application with your BetterCloud instance, the overall installation process is consistent. However, each integration is different, and may require varying levels and types of authentication. This article provides instructions for configuring and collecting all the information you need in order to add the Google Hangouts integration in BetterCloud.

BetterCloud requires no authentication to integrate with Google Hangouts. However, in order to use the included “Send Message With Bot” action, you will need to supply a URL for the bot that you are sending the message to, which will determine which user or room receives the message.

Webhooks can be configured on the user level or the room level. The basic steps are the same though. In order to create and retrieve the URL, please take the following steps:

Click on your name or the name of the chat room, and select “Configure Webhooks.”

Name the bot that will post to the user or room. Optionally you can add the URL for an avatar photo.

Copy the URL for the bot.

This URL will now be available as an encrypted environment variable in your integration. When configuring the Send Message With Bot action, please use this same URL in the URL field.
