Create a Read/Write Backup of Your Directory



  1. Open Directory
  2. Select All
  3. Create New Group

This article will explain how to create a read/write backup of the contents of your Directory in Google Contacts. Having a backup like this can be helpful in a few situations: for example, if you have existing contacts in your Directory that are not yet in BetterCloud, which you would like to import, or if you'd simply like to have a backup of your Directory in your Google Contacts that you can edit.

To do this, you can make a copy of your Directory as an editable group from within Google Contacts, by following these steps:

Step 1:

In Google Contacts click into your Directory

Step 2:

Click the box at the top to select all the contacts in your Directory

Step 3:

Click the icon on the top that looks like 3 silhouettes and select “Create New” and then enter a name for the contact group.

Congratulations! Everyone from your Directory is now also in a contact group that you can edit.

Note: Edits to this contact group will not be seen by your domain unless you upload this group to BetterCloud. To learn how to upload a group of contacts into BetterCloud, please see here: Shared Contacts
